Update on Potty-Training

Caden is keeping his underwear dry during the day. He even stays dry for most of his naps and night-times. The only problem is that he won't go when we're out and about. He won't go at church and holds it until we're home. Sometimes if we're out too long, he will pee in his car seat. He also suddenly started not going for my mom during the day. Hopefully, he will get more comfortable and these issues will resolve soon.

3-Day Potty Training

This week started our huge project--Potty Training in 3 days! Brad took the week of spring break off so that we could focus intensely on Caden during this time. We started the Tuesday after returning from Oklahoma and finished on Thursday.

I took one last picture of Caden in diapers on Monday night. Little did he know what was to come the next few days!
This was our manual that we followed religiously. I got it at the recommendation of a toddler Montessori teacher at work.
Caden went with us to Target and picked out Mickey Mouse and Thomas underwear. We kept telling him those 3 days to "Keep Mickey dry!" and "Tell Mommy or Daddy if you need to go potty!"

We used M&M's for a treat each time he went poo or pee. I had heard that learning to poo in the potty takes longer, but Caden caught on right away!

Yes, I know it's Dora. Don't judge. I borrowed this padded seat from Ashley to encourage him to use the bigger potty. We have a potty seat, but decided it would be more practical to train him on the big one. He likes sitting on Dora.
Day 1 was really rough. We made a big show of getting rid of all of the diapers right away and put C in underwear. We had to stay very close to be able to catch him in the middle of his accident. We would run him to the potty at the first sign of tinkle. He finally caught on after nap on Day 1, but asked to go about 20 times in a half hour!! We were worn out!! The other two days were a lot easier.

Gigi's treat at the end of the 3 days was a car watch that projects images!

Potty Adventures Part II

As a follow-up to Part I, we are still keeping Caden in underwear during the day, and pullups at nap and in public. I run him to the potty about every 30 minutes, especially when he points and says "poo-poo!" Usually, when he's gotten to that point, he's either already gone and letting me know, or is in the process of going. I rush him to the potty when that is said! I have caught him a few times at the end of the process, where he has gotten the last bit in the potty, and then rewarded him with Starburst.

Potty Adventures

Caden went in the potty today, twice! I'm so excited. He has been pointing to his diaper and saying "poo-poo" when he has been wet or dirty for the past week. Well, this morning, when I got him out of his crib, he did it again and he had a soaking diaper. I decided to go ahead and take a shot at potty training 101. I had purchased Gerber training pants and waterproof pants at Target this past weekend, and put them on him. They were very noisy when he walked, and he disliked them on so actually pulled down the plastic overpants and took them off. After being in just his underpants, he went over into the corner by the door and looked guilty. I found a little puddle by his feet and rushed him to the potty. I brought him to the potty to just sit throughout the day. I awarded him with starburst for the first couple of times he just sat, but then decided to just reward him when he pottied.

I returned home from work and he made his signal and I rushed him to the potty and I noticed he had already had an accident. He completed the potty in the toilet! Brad and I praised him excitedly and gave him starburst. We also called both Gigi and Nana to let him brag.

The much coveted Starburst
The plastic pants over training pants. Works great because my floors stay dry! I'm constantly laundering underpants though.
